Induction
Build up from observed particulars to general laws.
Bacon's proposed replacement for Aristotelian deduction. Gather observations systematically, find patterns, frame hypotheses, test them. The method is the soul of modern science. Hume will later expose its philosophical fragility (no number of observed swans guarantees the next swan will be white) — the problem of induction.
